19 things to celebrate from 2019: No. 15 – Daye breaks RPS speech drought

Auburn senior David Daye took fourth place in oratorical declamation at the IHSA tournament for speech, drama and individual events.

The annual competitions see students battle it out in events ranging from impromptu and radio speak to poetry reading and original comedy.

Daye’s showing broke a long drought for Rockford School District 205. Daye became the first 205 student to place in an IHSA state speech event since MaryEllen Beard and Cory Crow teamed up to take sixth in humorous duet acting in 1995. Cory Crow Geary now is the senior director of content partnerships for Turner Broadcasting in New York City.

Daye now is a freshman at Bradley University.
